Cat adoption in Launceston & District

Could you provide a loving new home for a cat in Launceston or the surrounding area? During the process of adopting a cat from us, we’ll consider everything from your potential pet’s personality and how this fits with your lifestyle, to your home environment – creating the perfect match for both cat and owner and the start of a wonderful feline friendship.

Every cat or kitten adopted from Cats Protection is:

  • Given a nose to tail full health check
  • Flea and worm treated
  • Vaccinated
  • Blood tested if necessary
  • Microchipped
  • Neutered, if not already done, or if a young kitten, in which case a free voucher will be supplied for later neutering
  • Insured for four weeks

As our veterinary and care costs average £150 for each cat, we charge an adoption fee of £105 for a kitten up to 6 months old, and £85 for a cat.

Please note that if you are in rented accommodation we require written confirmation from your landlord or housing association giving permission for you to keep a cat at the property. It must also state how many animals are allowed at the property.

Cats available for adoption from Launceston & District Branch are featured below. To express your interest in a particular cat, please enquire via their listing. If you have any general enquiries about your suitability, or the adoption process, please call us on: 01566 456 146 or email us at enquiries@launceston.cats.org.uk.

Volunteer at Cats Protection Launceston & District Branch

Without volunteers, Cats Protection Launceston & District simply wouldn't exist. Our amazing, friendly volunteers are a diverse group with a shared love of cats who fit volunteering around their home lives and personal commitments.

We're often looking to welcome new volunteers to join our brilliant team. As well as meeting great people and making an incredible difference to the cats of Launceston and the surrounding area.

Below are our current volunteering opportunities.  If you are interested in finding out more then please email coordinator@launceston.cats.org.uk

Cat Desensitisation Volunteers (1-2 hrs per week)
Thursday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.
Some of our feline friends looking for new and loving homes might be shy, nervous or aggressive depending on their past or if they are struggling to adapt to the rescue environment. Our cat desensitisation volunteers help the cats in our care by spending time enriching their experience through play, exercise and handling until they are happy and confident enough to find their perfect forever homes.
What will you be doing:
  • Helping ensure the needs of each cat are met
  • Using desensitisation programmes to help cats get used to different people and experiences
  • Enriching each cats experience through play, exercise and handling
We are looking for:
  • Basic knowledge of cats, cat care and behaviour
  • Good observational skills
  • Patience and perseverance
  • A level-headed and practical approach
  • The ability to be calm, quiet and confident around cats
Cat Care Volunteer (approx 3 hours)
Alternate Saturday mornings and Thursday mornings
Our branch takes excellent care of cats and kittens that need help, but life in a rescue environment is not ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Until we can find them that loving home our cat care volunteers are a passionate, committed team, helping to give cats and kittens the best possible care. Cat care volunteers spend time directly with cats, cleaning their pens, feeding, grooming and enriching their play time
What will you be doing:
  • Cleaning the living environments of the cats in care
  • Grooming cats
  • Enriching each cat’s experience in care through play, exercise and handling

  • Willingness to be part of a team
  • Good interpersonal and observational skills
Branch Admin Team Leader (2-5 hours per week)
Without the passionate and committed teams of volunteers across Cats Protection we wouldn’t be able to help the thousands of cats and kittens each year that rely on us for help. The purpose of this role is to support the branch with communications and administration at a local level. You’ll play an active part in the branch committee and support the branch with record keeping and planning, thus enabling more cats to be helped.
What will you be doing:
  • Disseminating relevant organisation-wide information and updates to the branch volunteers
  • Supporting engagement and communication between the branch and wider organisation
  • Drafting committee meeting agendas and taking and sharing meeting minutes
  • Supporting the efficient running of the branch by ensuring administration processes are carried out effectively

  • Good team-working skills
  • Good IT skills to use Cats Protection systems – training and support will be provided
  • A willingness to learn how the branch and organisation operates

Social Media / Website Editor Volunteer (2-5 hours per week)
Our social media /website editor volunteers use their passion and knowledge of social media to promote the activities of our branch though various channels. They directly help cats by raising awareness of Cats Protection. A higher profile can help us raise the funds we need for our work, ensure people know they can adopt a cat from us, help promote neutering and help as many people as possible learn more about feline welfare.

Promoting the work of Cats Protection through various social media channels, for example, Facebook, Instagram and X and through our own website
