You can choose how to reach your distance goal, whether that’s a wander every day in August, or across a few days while exploring new lands on your summer holiday!

Roam with friends, the kids, or solo, the choice is yours. Whatever you decide, make the most of your summer and sign up to help to create a better life for cats.

What is the Big Summer Roam?

Cats Protection Big Summer Roam is a walking challenge taking place during August. It's open to everyone of all abilities to take part, including those who may need to complete some or all of their miles using a mobility aid.

How far do I have to walk?

You can select one of our set challenge distances below, or you can choose your own distance. The choice is yours!

When can I sign up?

Registrations are open now for the 2024 Big Summer Roam and will close on 28 August 2024.

When does the walk take place?

You can choose to complete your miles at any time and across any number of days throughout the month of August. Whatever works for you works for us.

Where can I do my miles?

Anywhere, whether that’s your local park, on holiday or on a treadmill!

How can I track my miles?

There are many apps you can use to track your distance, but we recommend Strava. Alternatively, you can map out your route in advance or after your walk and record the distance.

How much money do I have to raise?

It costs £20 to sign up which includes your exclusive Cats Protection water bottle. Your registration fee will go a long way in supporting cats and the people that care for them. You can also set up a JustGiving page and fundraise through your challenge, meaning your miles will have an even bigger impact on cats.

Why should I take on the Big Summer Roam?

You’ll feel amazing inside and out as you accomplish your Big Summer Roam. Knowing that your miles are creating a better life for cats across the UK will add that extra spring to your step and motivate you to reach your distance goal.

How your miles will help cats

Without your support, we simply wouldn’t be able to provide the level of care we do for cats on a daily basis.

£20 could cover the cost of 12 soft blankets to keep cats warm, cosy and feeling safe in their beds in care
Just £50 could cover the cost of feeding 50 cats in our care for five days
£100 would provide one cat in need with a full first veterinary exam, vaccination and flea and worming treatment

You can choose any local Cats Protection centre or team to receive 100% of your registration fee and the funds you raise from your challenge, meaning your roam will help the cats in your area.
