Chip law reminder
“ As of June 10, 2024, it is mandatory in England to microchip cats over 20 weeks old, while dog microchipping has been compulsory since 2016. Owners must keep contact details updated on a compliant database. Failure to comply can lead to a 21-day notice, followed by a fine of up to £500.”
So many times we’ve come across pet owners that had no idea it was a legal requirement to chip your pets. Even if they spend all their time indoors - the pets, not the people.
 
So when we ask people to make sure to chip their pets, it’s not actually a request, it’s the law.
Don’t get caught out people!   Pass the information on!

Got a gift that's not quite 'you'? Your unwanted gift could make a big difference in a cat’s future.  Our branch is in need of raffle prizes to raise funds for the cats in our care. And your kindness in donating to our branch will be very much appreciated.

Cat adoption in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury

Could you provide a loving new home for a cat in Cheltenham and Tewkesbury? During the process of adopting a cat from us, we’ll consider everything from your potential pet’s personality and how this fits with your lifestyle, to your home environment – creating the perfect match for both cat and owner and the start of a wonderful feline friendship.

From 1 October 2025, the cost of adopting a cat is £95.

The cost of adopting a kitten is £120 - this cost relates to adopting a kitten under the age of one year.

When you telephone us on 0345 371 2730 your call will be answered by an independent messaging company who will take your details.

For your information: we do not have a central Rescue Centre - our welfare facilities consist of dedicated volunteer fosterers, in and around the Cheltenham and Tewkesbury area, caring for cats either in their own home or in specially designed pens in their garden - they spend considerable time making sure the cats are ready for adoption and their new forever homes.

Volunteer at Cats Protection Cheltenham & Tewkesbury

Without volunteers, Cats Protection Cheltenham & Tewkesbury Branch simply wouldn't exist. Our amazing, friendly volunteers are a diverse group with a shared love of cats who fit volunteering around their home lives and personal commitments.

Please consider volunteering for any of the following roles:

Cat/kitten fosterers

Do you have a spare room you could help look after a cat in or a space in the garden to put up a pen? It is a very rewarding voluntary job and HELP is always at hand if needed. If you are practical and love cats, please contact Andrew, our Welfare Officer on 0345 371 2730, for more information.

Other volunteer roles

We do have other volunteer roles for you to consider.  You could make an incredible difference to the cats of Cheltenham and Tewkesbury - you'll also enjoy practical benefits such as discounted pet insurance.
