Protect your cat and get advice on neutering

In 2023, we supported the neutering of 157,000 cats and kittens, including 12,000 feral cats. Contact your local Cats Protection team to find out if we can help with the cost of neutering your cat.

Am I eligible for help with the cost of neutering?

Help may be available for those who:

  • are in receipt of any of the following means-tested benefits: universal credit, income support, housing benefit, council tax benefit, pension credit, income-based Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), income-based Jobseeker's Allowance (JSA), working tax credits and child tax credits
  • have a household annual income of less than £25,000 before tax

What does neutering my cat involve? How long is the operation?

Neutering your cat is a fairly quick operation and your vet will likely ask you to drop your cat off in the morning and collect them later the same day.

Your cat will have a general anaesthetic, and they may also come home with some pain relief medication.

Your vet may recommend microchipping if your cat is not microchipped by the time they are neutered. We recommend all cats are microchipped and this is now the law in England (since June 2024)
