Cat adoption in High Wycombe & South Bucks

Could you provide a loving new home for a cat in High Wycombe & South Bucks? During the process of adopting a cat from us, we’ll consider everything from your potential pet’s personality and how this fits with your lifestyle, to your home environment – creating the perfect match for both cat and owner and the start of a wonderful feline friendship.

Cats available for adoption from Cats Protection High Wycombe & South Bucks Branch are featured below. To express your interest in a particular cat, please enquire via the listing. If you have any general enquiries about your suitability, or the adoption process, please call us on 07721 677487 or email us at adopt@highwycombe.cats.org.uk. Once we have your details and requirements, we will contact you to discuss the next stage.

We may also have other cats or kittens that are not quite ready for adoption, so even if you don’t see a suitable cat, please get in touch so that we can tell you what might be available soon, and we'll put your details on our waiting list. The cats shown are in approximate order of coming into our care.  The cats that have been waiting the longest time for a forever home are shown first, so if they look suitable for you, please spare them some thought.

All cats are neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, vet-checked, and have been treated for fleas and worms. We will also pay for kittens adopted from us to be neutered when they are old enough. All we ask for is an adoption fee of £100 per cat (or £120 per kitten) which helps towards the costs of looking after the cats in our care, and finding them homes so that more cats can be cared for.

We do not have a central adoption centre – all cats available for adoption are kept at private addresses by volunteer fosterers.

Priority is given to adopters within the High Wycombe and South Bucks catchment area (HP6 to HP15 and SL7 to SL9). If you live outside this catchment area but still want to adopt one of the cats shown, please contact us or apply anyway, as sometimes we may still be able to help.

Volunteer at Cats Protection High Wycombe & South Bucks Branch

Without volunteers, Cats Protection High Wycombe and South Bucks simply wouldn't exist. Our amazing, friendly volunteers are a diverse group with a shared love of cats who fit volunteering around their home lives and personal commitments.

We're always looking to welcome new volunteers to join our team. As well as meeting great people and making an incredible difference to the cats of High Wycombe & South Bucks, you'll enjoy practical benefits such as discounted pet insurance.

We are currently looking for:

  • fosterers (indoor and outdoor)
  • someone to look after our Twitter feed
  • someone to be in charge of our fundraising
  • home visitors, particularly those that know Maidenhead well

Would you like to become a fosterer?

Fosterers are central to our operation, and we desperately need more fosterers to look after cats whilst they await new homes.

Indoor fosterers would need a spare, secure room away from your other pets (if any) to keep a cat temporarily whilst it awaits a new home. If you have no other pets then you might opt to give the cat access to the whole house.  Either way, your foster cats cannot have outdoor access.

Outdoor fosterers would need space in the garden to accommodate a pen. You may need to have a concrete base put in your garden – again, the charity would pay for this. Being a fosterer is very rewarding but a lot of thought needs to be given before making the commitment as the charity would be purchasing a new pen and they are costly.

You would need to expect that people would need to visit and see the cats, after having been vetted beforehand. All food, litter and vets bills are paid for so all you need to supply as a fosterer is the TLC.

If you are interested in becoming a fosterer please email us at enquiries@highwycombe.cats.org.uk and we can tell you more about it. You can also watch a video about fostering here.

Lost and found cats in High Wycombe & South Bucks

Have you lost or found a cat in High Wycombe & South Bucks? We’re here to help you. To report a lost cat, or if you have found a cat in the High Wycombe & South Bucks area, please call us on 07973 946111 or email us: lostandfound@highwycombe.cats.org.uk.

You can also message us on our Facebook page.

If you have lost your cat:

Don’t panic! Cats can disappear for days at a time and return with no trouble.

Look in…

  • all rooms, cupboards, boxes and household appliances, eg washing machines
  • gardens and hedges – they may be hurt, frightened and hiding nearby. Keep calling them, particularly at dawn/dusk/night when it’s quiet. Put out a bowl of water and some tasty smelly food
  • sheds and garages
  • vehicles

Inform…

  • Facebook groups such as ‘Lost and Found Pets in High Wycombe and Surrounding Areas’, ‘Harveys Army South’, ‘Lost and Found Pets UK’
  • your microchip company (and make sure your registered contact details are up to date)
  • local veterinary practices
  • neighbours, using leaflets – or even better, talk to them directly to ensure they check garages etc – or better still, ask if you can check there yourself (pay particular attention where neighbours are away, as cats can get locked in by accident)
  • us and other local cat charities
  • as many 'lost pet' websites that you can find
  • the cleansing department of your local council
  • your postman, milkman and newspaper delivery person

Advertise…

  • posters on trees, distribute leaflets to shops, post office, garages.
  • in local schools, newspapers, radio
  • on local noticeboards, including a recent photograph of your missing cat
  • offer a reward

Finally…

  • the earlier you report your cat is missing, the more likely it is that it will be found
  • we know that losing a cat can be very traumatic for you. If you need some practical information and emotional support, please call our free Paws to Listen service on 0800 024 9494 or email pawstolisten@cats.org.uk
  • when your cat does return, DO inform any organisations who have been asked to look for them
  • have your cat microchipped - it is now a legal requirement!

If you have found a cat:

  • Only feed the cat if it is thin and starving
  • If the cat is injured, please take it to a vet who will provide emergency treatment if necessary
  • Have a read of this guide
  • See if it looks like any on the 'lost cat' places above (eg Facebook)
  • Knock on the doors of houses nearby to see if anybody knows who might own the cat, and revisit any that don't answer as owners may be on holiday
  • Take the cat to a vet who will check for a microchip (free of charge), and you can ask if anyone has reported a similar cat missing
  • Put a paper collar on the cat - try this a few times if the collar comes off
  • Produce some 'cat found' leaflets to be distributed in the area it was found
  • Contact us and other local cat rescues, just in case anybody reports their cat as missing to us

Doing these things is often very successful in reuniting a cat with its owners, and it is important that this advice is followed before a cat is taken into charity care.

If you find a deceased cat and have been unable to locate the owner, please take it to the nearest vet, who will scan it for a microchip and contact the owner.  If no owner is found they will keep it for a period of time in case an owner comes forward.
