Reasons to volunteer at a Cats Protection charity shop

  • You’ll develop new skills (or use your existing expertise for good!) and gain experience volunteering in a retail environment
  • You’ll meet brilliant, like-minded people who love cats as much as you do
  • Volunteering can boost mental health, reducing isolation, boosting confidence and relieving stress
  • If you’re a charity shop treasure-hunter yourself, you’ll love the chance to rummage through stock, finding and researching unique vintage, antique and designer pieces
  • Your time and generosity will help make a happier, more caring society for cats and those who look after them. You can find out about all the ways your support will make a difference.

What does a charity shop volunteering role involve?

Our shop assistant volunteers help with all aspects of the day-to-day running of our fantastic shops. This is a really flexible role where you can choose what you’d like to get involved with.

You might be a real people person who thrives on talking to people and serving customers. You might love making sure our shops are as tidy, organised and welcoming as they can be, creating a great shopping experience for customers. Maybe you have an eye for detail and would enjoy rummaging through donations in the store room, researching and pricing items. Or perhaps you have a flair for fashion and want to use your skills to create beautiful, eye-catching displays.

Whatever your strengths, your skills and experience will make such a difference. And if you’ve never volunteered in a shop before, we’ve got you. We’ll provide all the training and support you need, helping you to build your confidence and giving you the opportunity to try out different parts of the role.

Before you apply

It’s important to note that this role is based in a shop, there is no cat care involved. If you’d prefer to volunteer with cats, you can find our other volunteer opportunities here.

Before applying, please check there is a Cats Protection charity shop near you. We do not have shops in Northern Ireland currently.

You need to be aged 14 or above to volunteer in our shops, and over 16 to use the till or steam clothes. Find information about volunteering in a shop as part of your Duke of Edinburgh programme.
