Our vision for volunteering

Volunteering is and always will be at the heart of Cats Protection. It is joyful and inclusive. As a charity, working in partnership, together we transform the lives of cats, people and communities.

The difference you will make to cats and people

Our centres and branches take excellent care of cats and kittens that need help, but life in a rescue environment is not ideal for any cat compared to a loving home. Until we can find them that loving home our cat care volunteers are a passionate, committed team, helping to give cats and kittens the best possible care. Cat care volunteers spend time directly with cats, cleaning their pens, feeding, grooming and enriching their play time.

You will volunteer with others in this role and be part of a multi-pen site or centre team. If you think this is something you would like to do in your own home, please search and apply for the ‘Fosterer volunteer’ role on our website.

We are looking to expand our volunteer team as our new project really gets going!! During this exciting time of growth, we are looking for people with a love for cats and a desire to help. Our Cat Care Volunteer Role is primarily cleaning, so it's important to know that this role is not for the squeamish - it involves cleaning litter trays and managing other messes the cats may make, so if you have an issue with poop or vomit this is not the role for you!

Whilst cleaning is a major part of this role, you will also have the chance to spend 1-on-1 time with the cats, providing enrichment through handling, grooming and play. It really is a wonderful role!

*We complete a comprehensive onboarding process for all volunteers which includes interview, references, induction and training. Therefore, please be prepared to undertake some online and/or in-person learning as part of your onboarding.

*Please note, Merseyside centre's minimum volunteer age is 16yrs old.

We aim to respond to all applicants within five working days. If you haven't heard from us within this timeframe, please check your spam or junk folder, as our email may have been filtered there. If you still haven't received a response, feel free to reach out to us at: volunteering@nwengland.cats.org.uk  and we'd be happy to assist you
