Welcome to Cats Protection Forest of Dean Branch

We’re here to support cats and kittens in the Forest of Dean, covering postcodes: GL14, GL15, GL16, GL17, HR9 and NP16.

Run by a small team of dedicated, cat-loving volunteers, we're passionate about improving the lives of cats and kittens in the Forest of Dean, working to find loving new homes for local cats in our care, offering support with neutering, and helping with lost and found cats, as well as general education and awareness within the Forest of Dean area. You can find out more about the work of Cats Protection here.

HELP!

We are looking for dedicated cat lovers. At the moment we have several older felines (11-13 years) who have been loving companions all of their lives but now find themselves alone and in our cat pens. Much loved, cherished and cared for, they have sadly lost their guardians and now, as well as grieving, are bewildered at finding themselves with strangers in strange surroundings

Older cats still have a lot to give. They have been around the block so no house training required …they can still be playful and give lots of love, making them super companions.

Cats can often live up to 20.

Please give them a thought if you are looking for a new friend.

MICROCHIP

All pet cats in England must be microchipped by law or owners risk being fined £500.

Microchipping is a safe and effective procedure which will significantly increase the chance of reuniting your cat with you if they go missing.

FOOD DONATION POINTS

When our shop closed in Lydney, we not only lost a useful source of income but also a place where people could drop off donations. We are extremely grateful to the following shops for offering to take a bin on our behalf:

BREAM

  • Knockley Pet Supplies

CINDERFORD

  • Dean Estate Agents, near Tesco

LYDNEY

  • Forest Friendly - next to our old shop in Newerne Street
  • Forest Apparel - near the Original Factory shop

COLEFORD & ROSS ON WYE

  • Co-Ops

We would be very grateful to receive donations of cat food both wet and dry, litter (preferably woodchip), used postage stamps and any small items we might be able to sell at tabletop sales.

Please, nothing bigger!

Cat adoption in Forest of Dean

Could you provide a loving new home for a cat in the Forest of Dean? During the process of adopting a cat from us, we’ll consider everything from your potential pet’s personality and how this fits with your lifestyle, to your home environment – creating the perfect match for both cat and owner and the start of a wonderful feline friendship.

Every effort is made to match the new owner & cat, however, should you fail to bond with your cat or you feel that they are not content with you, we will be happy to take them back & try to find you a more suitable one.

Stray & feral cats in our care are tested to make sure they are not positive for FIV or FeLV. All cats for adoption are vaccinated, neutered & microchipped. This costs us around £200 per cat/kitten & if you adopt one of them, we ask for an adoption fee:

  • £120 for a kitten
  • £200 for a pair of kittens
  • £90 for an adult cat
  • £50 for a 14+ senior puss

Cats available for adoption from Cats Protection Forest of Dean Branch are featured below. To express your interest in a particular cat, please enquire via their listing. If you have any general enquiries about your suitability or the adoption process, please call us on:  01594 729045 or email us.

If you do not see the sort of cat you are looking for on our website, we may have a cat currently going through our health check/vaccination process that would interest you.

KITTENS...!

Lost and found cats in Forest of Dean

Have you lost or found a cat? We are here to help you and we do all we can to reunite lost cats with their owners. To report a lost or found cat in the Forest of Dean area, please contact our Facebook page with:

  • a description of the cat
  • some good photos
  • details of when and where it was lost or found.

What to do if your cat is missing:

  • Contact our Facebook page
  • Check that the cat microchip contact details are up-to-date.
  • Ring around the local vets.
  • Walk all around your locality, look on road verges, under hedges & in woodland. Call out & rattle the food dish or a box of biscuits. Call out yourself as the cat may be nervous of strange voices.
  • Use Facebook & Nextdoor social media sites to advertise the cat as missing.
  • Call on neighbours or put a flyer through their doors with a description & photo of the missing cat. Ask if you can look in their garage, shed, greenhouse, outbuildings, and caravan.
  • Ask neighbours if they have CCTV security systems or wildlife cameras in their gardens & if they have seen a stray cat.
  • Put up notices in your local shops & supermarkets, village & parish noticeboards. Include local bus stops & outside nearby schools.
  • Ask the postman & the milkman. They are wonderful sources of local information!
  • Place an ad in the local papers under "Pets" or "Lost". Look in the "Found" columns.
  • For more information follow the 'Lost, found and feral cats' link below.

FINALLY ...when your search is completed, please take down all of your missing posters. This frees up space for the next lost cat & reduces complaints about fly-posting.
